Chatting With Sherri welcomes award-winning writer Azure Arther!
Azure Arther is a native of Flint, Michigan, who resides in Dallas, Texas, with her husband, son, and Blazion, the Betta fish. Azure began writing at a young age, and while her inspiration began with Grimm fairytale stories and the Sleepover Friends, much of her current style has been heavily influenced by Octavia Butler and Henry James. She is obsessed with literature and has found that her passions are evenly distributed between writing, teaching, parenting, and reading books with her son. Azure’s stories and poems have appeared or are forthcoming in more than a dozen publications, but Writers of the Future is her first professional sale.
About “Agatha’s Monster,” Azure says, “Agatha began with some random questions. One day, I found myself wondering: what if monsters were born out of trauma? What would the world look like? How would humanity stay safe? Thus, Agatha came to life as a Hunter, a mage, a regular person with basic needs and worries. The ride Agatha and her monsters go on surprised me at times, and every rewrite shifted the narrative just enough to keep me, and hopefully future readers, guessing about what would happen next. The ending actually surprised me, too, and I feel it is one of my best-written endings thus far.”
. Azure Arther won The Writers of the Future contest earning her a cash prize, trip to Hollywood, a week-long professional workshop, and her story, "Agatha's Monster," is published in the anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 38

Chatting With Sherri welcomes award-winning artist and illustrator Zaine Lohdi!
Zaine Lohdi  was born in 1999 in the seaside tourist town of Sarasota, Florida. He feels as if his path as an illustrator was predestined—he has known the trajectory of his life since childhood. Zaine was surrounded by incredible fantasy art from a young age, collecting Magic: The Gathering cards and whatever comics he could get his hands on. The art of Frank Frazetta, Alex Ross, and Gerald Brom were pivotal in his stylistic development.
Zaine is currently studying illustration with a visual development (concept art) focus at Ringling College of Art and Design. He placed the most importance on programs that value an unwavering work ethic and emphasize preparation for the workforce.
Zaine was honored with the grand prize in the Illustrators of the Future Contest earning him the Golden Brush Award trophy and a cash prize of $5,000 in addition to having his art published in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 38.
In his acceptance speech, Zaine relayed to the nearly five hundred attendees, “I don't think I would have made it this far if it hadn't been for my girlfriend, Haley Burton, whom I'd like to thank.  She would tell me, ‘You need to get better at managing your time.  Just do it.' Thank you for encouraging me to stick with it.  It means so much to me. From now on, every morning, I will continue to do what I do.”

Chatting With Sherri welcomes author and Writers of the Future winner, Ms. Em Dupre!
Em Dupre’s present incarnation largely believes she was born on the wrong planet and writes all manner of speculative fiction, with or without permission. “The Greater Good” began in Orson Scott Card’s literary boot camp in 2013. She has been published in Daily Science Fiction and won the first prize for flash fiction in the UA Anthology Obvious Things.
About “The Greater Good,” Em says, “I’ve always been interested in the concept of justice and knowing that the world may change, but humans and their base desires remain the same. I often wondered if there had been one adult in Lord of the Flies, how would that have affected the outcome? And how could we implement hands-on guidance in a speculative future?”

Chatting With Sherri Welcomes back author; Greg Hickey!
Greg Hickey was born in Evanston, Illinois in 1985. After graduating from Pomona College in 2008, he played and coached baseball in Sweden and South Africa. He is now a forensic scientist, endurance athlete and award-winning writer. He lives in Chicago with his wife, Lindsay.
The Friar's Lantern-An eccentric scientist tells you he can read your mind and offers to prove it in a high-stakes wager. A respected college professor exacts impassioned, heat-of-the-moment revenge on his wife’s killer—a week after her death—and you’re on the jury. Take a Turing test with a twist, discover how your future choices might influence the past, and try your luck at Three Card Monte. And while you weigh chance, superstition, destiny, intuition and logic in making your decisions, ask yourself: are you responsible for your actions at all? Choose wisely—if you can.
Our Dried Voices-In 2153, cancer was cured. In 2189, AIDS. And in 2235, the last members of the human race traveled to a far distant planet called Pearl to begin the next chapter of humanity.
Several hundred years after their arrival, the remainder of humanity lives in a utopian colony in which every want is satisfied automatically, and there is no need for human labor, struggle or thought. But when the machines that regulate the colony begin to malfunction, the colonists are faced with a test for the first time in their existence.

Chatting With Sherri welcomes award-winning writer; Mike Jack Stoumbos!
Mike Jack Stoumbos is a spec-fic author, disguised as a believably normal teacher, living with his wife and their parrot. Mike grew up with three brothers and over forty first cousins, who he enlisted as test audiences (and participants) for his imagined adventures, often reenacted with cardboard props or Star Wars action figures. His love of storytelling brought him to the stage as a musical theater actor, the role-playing table as a game master, and a career trajectory to teach English and theater. In the summer of 2019, however, Mike shifted his writing passion into a priority, and once again became a student: attending workshops, practicing daily, and braving the story submission gauntlet.
Mike’s work has since appeared in several collections, including his first pro sale in Galactic Stew and a publication alongside a personal hero in Hold Your Fire: Stories Celebrating the Creative Spark. Shortly after he was named a Writers of the Future winner, Mike’s space-opera series, This Fine Crew, was picked up by Chris Kennedy Publishing, for many continuing adventures.
Richmond, Virginia resident, Mike Jack Stoumbos, was in Hollywood where he was honored as a winner in the Writers of the Future Contest at The Taglyan Complex
