Chatting With Sherri welcomes back award-winning crime novelist; Martin Edwards!
Martin Edwards has drawn on more than 30 years’ experience as a crime novelist. He is also an internationally acclaimed editor of crime anthologies for the British Library and other publishers. He is President of the Detection Club and Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association, and Archivist of both organisations.
Martin's latest novel; The Puzzle of Blackstone Lodge; 1930: Nell Fagan is looking for a second chance at a career in investigative journalism and the call of Blackstone Fell's sanatorium is irresistible. In 1606, a man vanished from a locked gatehouse in a remote Yorkshire village, and 300 years later, it happened again. Nell confides in the best sleuth she knows, Rachel Savernake Looking for answers, Rachel travels to lonely Blackstone Fell in Yorkshire, with its eerie moor and sinister tower. With help from her friend Jacob Flint – who's determined to expose a fraudulent clairvoyant – Rachel will risk her life to bring an end to the disappearances at Blackstone Fell where people go in, but never come out.
In addition to enjoying many years of success as a crime writer, he is the only person to have been elected to serve as Chair of the Crime Writers’ Association and President of the Detection Club at the same time. This experience gives him a special understanding of the challenges facing crime writers. Having combined his writing life with more than 30 years as a partner in a law firm, he is ideally equipped to encourage aspiring novelists to write while coping with a day job or other commitments.

Bea Jackson creates to encapsulate a moment in time, challenging herself to combine her boundless imagination with experiences and emotion and capture the result on paper. A lifelong collector of both picture books and comics, she admires art’s ability to speak perfectly on its own and translate ideas without words. As a digital painter using textures that mimic pastels, oil paints, and watercolor, she pursues the rainbow in her palette, seeking to add a touch of childhood magic to her work. From one of her earliest illustrated picture books, Hair Like Mine, to the New York Times bestselling Parker Looks Up, Bea explores themes that unify rather than divide.

“From my first time participating in the Contest, I looked up to the judges after meeting them. I loved their work, their passion for the field, and how they were willing to give back and share their wisdom with artists like me, who at the time really needed someone to take me under their wing. They taught me how to pursue my career, how to avoid pitfalls as an artist. They made themselves available if I or any of the other artists needed it. They became an invaluable resource in my life and helped to shape my career today.

Chatting With Sherri welcomes award-winning speculative writer; Desmond Astaire!
Desmond Astaire is a speculative fiction storyteller from Central Illinois, where he navigates the journey of life alongside a devoted wife and forever-loved son. In his other life, Astaire is a senior enlisted leader for a military public relations unit, supervising the training, development, and operations of multimedia content creators.
Astaire’s lifelong obsession with science fiction and fantasy was forged as a child in the halls of local public libraries. For these formative experiences, he is forever grateful. Astaire can be found Saturday mornings in Peoria metro-area coffee shops conducting weekly writing sessions and trying to apply Denzel Washington’s adage that “Dreams without goals are just dreams, and they ultimately fuel disappointment..”
